Precision Extraction status: no longer operating

Precision Extraction Solutions was a Troy, Michigan maker of hydrocarbon closed loop extraction systems, founded in 2014 and owned by Agrify Corporation from October 2021. It is no longer operating: Agrify's board approved discontinuing the extraction business on March 30, 2025, and the company reports that all of its operations ceased as of March 31, 2025.

Agrify bought Precision and Cascade Sciences from Sinclair Scientific for a base price of $50 million, $30 million in cash and $20 million in Agrify shares, according to its October 2021 announcement. Agrify then changed its name to RYTHM, Inc. on September 2, 2025 and refocused on hemp derived beverages. The filings we reviewed describe a wind down of the extraction business, not a sale of the brand, and name no successor offering factory support.

Precision and Cascade had worked with more than a thousand cannabis and hemp customers by 2021, according to Agrify, so Precision equipment remains in the field. This page is a guide to buying, servicing and selling used Precision systems. Urth & Fyre does not currently list one.

Precision Extraction models on the used market

Agrify's filings describe Precision as a developer of hydrocarbon and alcohol extraction solutions. The hydrocarbon systems are the ones buyers ask about most:

  • PX series extractors: PX1, PX5, PX10 and PX30. Agrify released the PX5 passive hydrocarbon extractor in 2022 and marketed it as engineer peer reviewed by PSI and certified to Class I, Division 1.
  • X series extractors: X10 and X40.
  • XMU: introduced in November 2020 as a US made extractor meeting GMP and 3A sanitary standards, with chromatography refinement built in.
  • HDU hydrocarbon distillation unit: released in June 2023, it sits between the source solvent tank and the extractor. Agrify reported 1 to 5 more extraction cycles per day when running a PX5 with the HDU.

Where a used Precision system fits by facility stage

A used Precision extractor makes the most sense for a processor that already has, or is building, a hydrocarbon room with a fire marshal who knows the process. New licensees can save on capital, but they carry the full burden of documentation because the manufacturer can no longer issue letters or answer an inspector's questions.

Established labs often buy a second unit of a model they already run, since operators, SOPs and spare parts carry over. Labs moving from ethanol to hydrocarbon should budget the room before the extractor; our guide to C1D1 room requirements for cannabis extraction covers what the space needs.

Confirm column size, solvent tank volume and recovery rate on the unit and its paperwork rather than from the model number.

How to evaluate a used Precision Extraction system

Start with documents, then hardware. The engineer peer review letter, the original manual and the serial plate are what your authority having jurisdiction will ask for, and they cannot be reissued by a company that has ceased operations. A unit that arrives without them may need a new third party engineering review before it can run.

Next, confirm the hazardous location rating matches your room, and ask for any pressure test, inspection and service records. Include the recovery pump in that request. Our operator's guide to buying used extraction equipment lists the acceptance tests to run before you pay.

Finally, confirm clean title. Agrify's mid 2025 quarterly report describes the sale or other disposal of all remaining extraction assets, so some units entering the market came from that wind down. Ask for a bill of sale that traces the unit back to its last owner.

Precision Extraction compared with current options

A used Precision system costs less up front, but it carries no factory warranty or OEM support. A new extractor from an active manufacturer can come with current engineering documents, a warranty and a company that can answer an inspector.

One of those manufacturers has Precision roots. In 2023 cofounder Marc Beginin launched Prodigy Processing Solutions, a cannabis and hemp extraction equipment company whose flagship ProX is built in the US from 316L stainless steel. Agrify also kept developing Precision branded gear after the acquisition, which is why late units such as the PX5 and the HDU appear alongside the older X10 and X40. The 2023 HDU release lists the extractors Agrify designed it to pair with.

The wind down itself is on record in Agrify's March 31, 2025 Form 8-K, which also notes plans to sell remaining extraction inventory.

Buying or selling Precision equipment through Urth & Fyre

Urth & Fyre sources and quotes used extraction systems, including Precision units, and reviews documentation and room fit with you before a unit ships. If you need a Precision model to match an existing line, tell us the model, solvent and room classification.

If you own a Precision extractor you no longer run, you can sell it through Urth & Fyre. Send the model, serial number, peer review letter and service history so buyers can evaluate it quickly.

To find a unit, request a used Precision system; to list one, start on our sell equipment page.

  • Get the engineer peer review letter, manual and serial plate photo before you commit. With the manufacturer gone, these cannot be reissued, and a unit without them may need a new third party engineering review.
  • Match the hazardous location rating to your room. Agrify marketed the PX5 as certified to Class I, Division 1; confirm the rating on the specific unit.
  • Plan for third party service. Agrify reports all extraction operations ceased March 31, 2025, so there is no factory warranty, parts desk or field service.
  • Ask for pressure test, inspection and recovery pump service records, and inspect clamps, gaskets and sight glasses during a site visit.
  • Check what ships with the extractor. An HDU, chiller or recovery pump changes cycle time, and Agrify reported 1 to 5 more cycles per day when a PX5 ran with the HDU.
  • Confirm clean title. Agrify's 2025 filings describe the sale or disposal of remaining extraction assets, so ask for a bill of sale that traces the unit.

    Precision Extraction questions

Is Precision Extraction still in business?

No. Precision Extraction is no longer operating. Its owner, Agrify Corporation, had its board approve discontinuing the extraction business on March 30, 2025, and Agrify reports that all operations ceased as of March 31, 2025. Agrify has since renamed itself RYTHM, Inc. and focuses on hemp derived beverages and brand licensing, not extraction equipment.

    Who owned Precision Extraction?

Sinclair Scientific owned Precision Extraction Solutions until October 2021, when Agrify Corporation acquired it along with Cascade Sciences for a $50 million base price, $30 million in cash and $20 million in Agrify shares. Agrify ran Precision as part of its extraction business until the March 2025 wind down and changed its own name to RYTHM, Inc. in September 2025.

Can I still get parts and service for a Precision extractor?

Not from the manufacturer. Agrify's filings describe the extraction business as wound down, not sold, and name no successor offering factory support. Owners now rely on third party technicians and fabricators for parts and service. Keep the original manual, peer review letter and serial records, since they cannot be reissued.

Is a used Precision extractor peer reviewed?

Some models were marketed that way. Agrify described the PX5 as engineer peer reviewed by PSI and certified to Class I, Division 1. A peer review applies to a specific design and configuration, so ask the seller for the letter that matches the unit's model and serial number, and confirm with your authority having jurisdiction that it will accept it.

What Precision Extraction models were made?

Precision and Agrify releases name the PX1, PX5, PX10 and PX30 extractors, the X10 and X40 extractors, the XMU hydrocarbon extractor from 2020 and the HDU hydrocarbon distillation unit from 2023. Agrify's filings also describe alcohol extraction solutions. Confirm the exact configuration on the serial plate, since options varied by build.

    What happened to Agrify?

Agrify sold its cultivation business on December 31, 2024, discontinued its extraction business on March 30, 2025, and changed its name to RYTHM, Inc. effective September 2, 2025. The company now trades on the Nasdaq Capital Market under the ticker RYM and says it expects growth from brand licensing and hemp derived THC products.

    Who founded Precision Extraction?

Nick Tennant founded Precision Extraction in 2014 with Marc Beginin, according to trade press, and Agrify's acquisition release lists Tennant as founder and chief technology officer. Tennant has said the company reached a million dollars in sales in its first 90 days. In 2023 Beginin launched Prodigy Processing Solutions, a separate extraction equipment maker.
