USA Lab Equipment (USA Lab) is a Livonia, Michigan supplier of rotary evaporators, short path kits, vacuum ovens and lab gear, founded in 2010.
USA Lab Equipment, which trades as USA Lab, is a family owned lab equipment supplier at 12400 Belden Ct. in Livonia, Michigan, founded in 2010. It sells USA Lab branded rotary evaporators, short path distillation kits and vacuum ovens, plus new and renewed lab, processing and stainless equipment from other makers.
The company is active. Its site shows live pricing on current models, and its about page traces the business from a single rack of renewed equipment in 2010 to a 30,000 square foot facility in 2022. USA Lab took its current name in 2016 when it broadened its range. Urth & Fyre does not currently list USA Lab equipment, so this page is an operator's guide to the brand, with routes to request a unit, sell one or see comparable gear we stock.
The smallest USA Lab rotary evaporator, the RE-1005, runs on 110V and a NEMA 5-20 plug on a 20A receptacle, so it fits a bench without new electrical work. The 1.9 cubic foot USA Lab vacuum oven also runs on 110 to 120V, with a range of room temperature plus 10°C to 200°C and five shelves included.
The RE-1020 (20 liter) and RE-1050 (50 liter) rotary evaporators step up to 220V, single phase power on a NEMA L6-30 plug, rated at 5,000 W and 6,500 W. USA Lab lists the RE-1050 at 7 liters per hour or more for water and 15 liters per hour or more for alcohol, with a 77 liter bath. It states the unit is not intended for 24 hour operation, with a maximum of 16 hours, which matters if you plan to run continuous shifts.
USA Lab sells short path kits from 2 to 22 liters. The EZ Path 20 liter turnkey kit includes a 3,000 W mantle rated to 300°C, a jacketed head, cold trap, a 21 CFM vacuum pump and a heater chiller. Its category pages also list wiped film and falling film systems.
Start with daily solvent volume and work back to flask size and power. At the RE-1050's rated 15 liters per hour for alcohol, an 8 hour shift works out to about 120 liters of ethanol, but only if the chiller and vacuum pump keep pace, so size them with the evaporator. Our rotary evaporator buying guide walks through that math.
Next, check the electrical and site limits in the manual. The RE series is not explosion proof and is not rated for Class I, II or III hazardous locations. USA Lab also says the RE-1050 is not rated for 208V input; its acceptable range is 219 to 253V. A building with 208V service needs a different plan before the unit arrives.
Finally, check certification. USA Lab lists the RE-1050 and its 1.9 cubic foot oven as ETL certified to UL and CSA standards. Intertek, which issues the ETL mark, is recognized under OSHA's NRTL program for standards that include UL 61010-1 for laboratory equipment. Our UL 61010-1 buyer's checklist explains what inspectors look for.
USA Lab resells some Across International ovens, including the Ai AT75a 7.5 cubic foot model. On rotary evaporators, the two brands publish similar 50 liter specs with different emphasis:
The higher bath ceiling on the USA Lab unit gives room for oil bath work, while the Across unit offers an explosion proof ready version (the SE130ex). For buyers who want a production rotovap in stock now, Urth & Fyre currently lists a Büchi RotaVapor R-220 Pro with recirculating chiller.
Whatever the brand, the ETL mark and the UL mark both rest on NRTL testing with periodic follow up inspections, so ask any seller for the certification record tied to the serial number.
Urth & Fyre sources and quotes lab and processing equipment, including USA Lab models, on request. Tell us the model, flask size, voltage and whether you need the chiller and pump bundled, and we will quote new or used options and check the electrical fit against your room.
If you own a USA Lab rotovap, oven or short path kit you no longer need, you can sell it through Urth & Fyre. Send the model, serial number, hours and photos of the glass and seals.
To get a USA Lab unit or a comparable rotovap quoted, request equipment with your solvent volume and power details.
Is USA Lab Equipment still in business?
Yes. USA Lab is active and operates from 12400 Belden Ct. in Livonia, Michigan, with live pricing on rotary evaporators, short path kits and vacuum ovens on its site. The family owned company started in 2010, adopted the USA Lab name in 2016 and moved into a 30,000 square foot facility in 2022.
What does USA Lab Equipment make?
USA Lab sells its own branded rotary evaporators, short path distillation kits and vacuum ovens, and distributes processing and lab equipment from other makers. Its range covers reactors, closed loop extractors, ethanol centrifuges, chillers, freeze dryers, stainless tanks, glassware and solvents. It also sells used and renewed lab equipment, which is how the business began.
What power does the USA Lab RE-1050 rotary evaporator need?
The RE-1050 needs 220 to 240V, single phase power on a 30A circuit with an L6-30P plug. The manual rates it at 6,500 W. USA Lab says it is not rated for 208V input and lists an acceptable range of 219 to 253V, so buildings with 208V service need a different solution.
Are USA Lab rotary evaporators UL listed?
USA Lab lists its RE series rotary evaporators as ETL certified to UL and CSA standards. The ETL mark is issued by Intertek, which OSHA recognizes as a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory for standards including UL 61010-1. Ask the seller for the certificate tied to the serial number, since certification is listed as optional on some USA Lab products.
How fast does the USA Lab RE-1050 evaporate ethanol?
USA Lab rates the RE-1050 at 15 liters per hour or more for alcohol and 7 liters per hour or more for water. Real throughput depends on bath temperature, vacuum depth and chiller capacity. The manufacturer also says the unit is not intended for 24 hour operation, with a maximum of 16 hours of run time.
Who makes the vacuum ovens USA Lab sells?
USA Lab sells its own VO series vacuum ovens, including a 1.9 cubic foot, 200°C, 110V model with four sided heating and five shelves. It also resells Across International ovens, such as the Ai AT75a 7.5 cubic foot model. Check the brand field on each listing so you know whose warranty and parts support applies.
